What's up muffin men. We here at MegaBaked have been fucking slacking pretty hard these past few months. Finals and partying killed this blog.

It's time to get back into it. Thanks to all who came back after the long hiatus. Got some bass to catch up on.

First off, because it's fresh in my mind, Major Lazer played at HARD's free Mouth Taped Shut show and killed it. Their set ranged from dancehall reggae to hard house remixes, like this Crookers remix of their newest, Original Don. All in all, major success. Big ups to Destructo and NIN's Trent Reznor for doing us all the favor.

While on the subject of HARD, one artist that has been among their favorites has been Dillon Francis. Got a couple remixes done for the likes of heavy-hitters Chase & Status and Calvin Harris Moombahton is gaining ground amongst EDMs frothy faithful. DF shows us why. Got a couple tracks from Swedish duo Dada Life. These guys throw it down hard everywhere they go. The first is a remix of Duck Sauce's latest, Big Bad Wolf, and it's the only version that comes even close to the heaviness presented by Gesaffelstein. The other is their newest original, and they're kicking out the fucking epic.

Noob Casts A Spell

As we begin to become more saturated with tasteless tracks, it's been hard to find something different. well, here's a breath of fresh air. vakkuum went out on his facebook and said, "Noob's new EP is a work of art." i couldn't agree anymore. Noob's new EP on Sound Pellegrino is a beautiful association of electronic sounds that conger up feelings of pure happiness. everything about this EP is well constructed. you have a nice, hope filled track like Spell. Protien reminds me of a Mr. Oizo with lots of musical disorganization. but Noob throws in a little of his flavour and makes all the elements of the track come together in a nice way. Malestrom's remix of spell is just as good as the original with loads and loads of bass.

Canblaster was one of the featured remixers on Boys Noize & Erol Alkan's release of Avalanche (Terminal Velocity), which was release not too long ago. his remix is absolutely mind blowing. he basically took a great track and made it better than grandma's gumbo. he truly is on a whole other planet. his production is in a whole other galaxy and traveling though those star systems. his music has this soft, mellow vibe, but hits you like a heavy hitting banger. it's a great contradiction, like starburst.

this morning i was handed the news that DJ Mehdi, producer, DJ, and an Ed banger all-star, has passed away at the age of 34. when i first got a grip of this terrible news, it brought me back to a time in 2009 when DJ AM passed away. again, us fans and EDM enthusiasts are heartbroken. we didn't just lose an artist, but we lost a friend.

it's crazy how we feel so attached to these artists in this music genre. when you go to a show to see some DJs, they create a more intimate environment that's bar none. at rock shows, hip hop shows, or whatever, the connection you have with the performer is minimal. the legends and prodigies of this genre invites the listener into their realm for an hour or two to share their music and energy. it's as if we all went over to their home for dinner, had a couple of drinks, and shared an endless amount of laughs and good times. after a good show, you don't just bond with the people around you, but you also bonded with the performer on enormous levels. i was not lucky enough to see DJ Mehdi live, but from what i hear and see on the internet, he embodied what these legends do. connected with the crowd to create this amazing and unique energy. he loved his work and enjoyed every second of it.

when i was seeping through my news feed on facebook this mourning, it was crazy to see all the love for Mehdi from other artists and producers.

Troll, blog, and faggot. Three words commonly associated with one another. Its unusual to see how many people blog themselves then hate on others for doing the same thing or by employing blatant ignorance by calling every other blogger a faggot and or troll. I can understand why music blogs have become such a thorn in real artists sides, write a snooty paragraph and post tracks ripped off other blogs and perpetuate free music pirating. Then the guys who've been blogging for longer immediately turn and say the newcomers are the root of the problem. It probably really gets on an artist's nerves that tracks they work on for 50+ hours get leaked and dumped onto thousands of iTunes libraries within minutes. At the risk of outing myself as a hypocrite and troll I offer one piece of respite, at least people still enjoy music enough to want to talk about it right? EDM is unavoidably popular nowadays, waving a big flag that says "I liked before it was cool" is so fucking played out, let 14 year olds do that. To the REAL artists I do apologize for stealing your music then posting it on the internet and inviting friends and strangers alike to steal it as well; on the other hand, you are welcome. Without us, the loyal fans that pay $80+ and duke it out with angry staff, security, cops and a number of adversities just to come see these guys play, they wouldn't have any of the resources to do any of this on such a grandiose scale its now on. Nero: Welcome Reality

can you just take a minute to look at this art above. this is probably the coolest album art i have ever seen. it looks like a poster for some 80's sci-fi thriller. i mean, look at it! shit, i hope they come out with actual movie sized posters of this. or a nero movie. i'd like to meet the artist would did this and shake his hand, with the hopes of his talent rubbing off on me.

oh yeah, Nero is coming out with a full length studio album called Welcome Reality. it will be dropping in August 1st at an itunes store near you. below is a track that will be featured on the album along with classics like innocence, guilt, and others. book of harmony is something you'd expect from the duo. it has that sound we all know and love from the group: symphony dubstep. this one starts would with a more electro-y drop but then goes into Nero brand dubstep. froth it.

–the latest remix from trolley off Emalkay's new EP the world. again, nice use of beautiful and captivating vocals. another sweet sensual track. hearing skream drop this at Sunrise was a site to hear. when you hear a track live, you have a whole new appreciation for the track because you remember the moment when it was dropped which triggers a domino affect of remembering good memories from the night. so download, and turn it up really loud.

Leading off with DIM & TAI's new track Ion. This track goes mega hard. I'll be the first to admit that it sounds like a Boys Noize remix of Lyposuct, but either way, it fuckin knocks. Everything TAI has been touching in the last year has become a staple of my library.

2011 is the year that gesaffelstein took over the hearts and minds of many music goers. as if he hasn't already captivated the minds of many with his breakthrough EP conspiracy pt.1 (click here for the post with the hatred download), he's coming out with the 2nd half of the EP on turbo records July 19th. mark your calenders, this is the day that gesaffelstein's take over is in full swing.

from what i heard from the previews, this EP is only reenforces the fact that gesaffelstein is the 2nd coming of christ in the techno world. the beats are down tempoed to a 100-110 BPM (with the exception of conspiracy origins), but the value of filth isn't completely lost. it's gesaffelstein for gods sake, you expect nothing but greatness from him. or at least i do. listed below are the preview for the EP along with a bonus track for download. listen and be amazed. froth out.

at my first semester in san jose state, i came across one of the coolest teachers, Justin Morales aka DJ Camouflage aka J-Mo. after numerous talks about music, giants baseball, and adult swim, we became friends through social media and i began to follow his music project, Seabright.

Seabright's latest album, Feel Good, is complied of "feel good" tracks that are reminiscent of the nice summer time we all should be enjoying. soothing guitar, sweet vocals, and solid synth work makes these tracks enjoyable for any listener. to tell you the truth, a headache has got me sulking in bed. but i threw on Feel Good and it's positive vibes are the perfect remedy. right on J-Mo. keep on rolling with those good San Jose vibes.

honestly, i don't remember a whole lot. skream & benga played for 3 hours, which was good. sub focus had a very diverse set, which was good. zed's dead was good. and there was a special appearance by the cookie monster.

all & all, Vital SC threw down another killer show that surpassed all our exceptions. major brownie points for bringing over the godfathers. i'll just post a mix bag of tracks, i'm too drained to type all this jibber jabber about the show. but enjoy the music and relive the night.

tiga's turbo recordings has been on my hot record label list for the past couple of months. throwing down eps with the likes of clouds, gesaffelstein (praise he), proxy, and many other heavy weights. in conmemoration of turbo's 100th EP, tiga decided to throw down a massive EP of ZZT's (tiga & zombie nation) zzafrika. this huge EP has remixes from the likes of afrojack, gesaffelstein, light year, and sound of stereo.

here's a couple of my favourite remixes from the no.100. sorry rave kids, i'm not posting the afrojack remix. quite frankly, i didn't like it as much as the gesaffelstein remix. the gesaffelstein remix is god. but the thing i like about these tracks posted below is that they sound nothing alike. so though they are remixes of the same track, they could be easily mistaken for original mixes.

HARD weekend

HAAARRRDDDD weekend was well.....incredibly HARD. I mean my god could that have been any funner? With the exception of Fake Blood being a biiiit delayed from apparent technical difficulties(?) not sure, but he was on stage looking confused for a while. when he did finally get his equipment cued and ready he did not disappoint, an epic set and one to remember for certain. Prior to Fake Blood, Destructo and Mumbai Science rocked the fuckin house, unfortunately a little early (around 7-9 or 10ish) which is just too fuckin early for partying, you're just getting your bearings around then. fortunately they were wonderful warm ups for the main attraction, Fake Blood and Simian Mobile Disco; who collectively slaughtered the place.

jamie XX, of the XX, also came out with a track recently with the one and only gil scott-heron (musician, poet, revolutionary). in ny is killing me, scott isn't delivering words of revolution, but his eire & raspy voice accommodates jamie's beats real well. if you're interested in words of revolution from mister scott, i highly recommend checking out his most famous piece the revolution will not be televised. a spoked word that's very reminiscent of today.

For not posting shit lately.... I am very sorry. To be honest I strayed from my electronic musical fixation to delve deeper into my classic rock collection; I regret nothing, other than letting down any readers we might have now(over 11,000 hits...holy shit!) In my recent musical pilgrimage I've gotten sucked into an infatuation with The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Beatles, and The Velvet Underground. The first three might be familiar but they're musical libraries are so vast I strongly urge you to listen to some B sides and rarities, you'll be very pleased with what you find, especially in the Velvet Underground collection....Lou Reed is incredibly talented, as are the aforementioned talents, DIG DEEP!!

Anyway I am going to throw out three songs for download, one an Elton John cover by the stone cold fox that is Ellie Goulding remixed into a nice little bass heavy jingle; one of those nostalgic sounding songs even though its relatively new. A Jan Driver track I discovered off of Alex Ridha's (aka Boys Noize) winter top ten list and finally a Miike Snow remix that just has a nice warming sound to it, especially helpful during this cold and wet December, enjoy :)

–this lucky date remix really knocked me on my ass this weekend. hard driving electro that can get a paraplegic up and going on the dance floor. has a pretty solid build up into it's 2nd drop, which happens to be a dubstep breakdown? this is a great party starter.

Real Boy & Dynamics - 1922 (Original Mix) ☃☃☃☃

–with the prohibition of 4 loko from our local liquor stores, it's only fitting that dynamics and real boys put out this sexy swingy style track reminiscent of the roaring '20s (hence the title, i'm guessing?). a solid track, it won't hurt your head, but it will get your head bopping. support these guys next month as both real boy & dynamics open for pance party at Stinks Like Gold at Blakes in B-town.

*deemed as "futuristic bass" by canblaster, this track has a good vibe to it. futuristic synth sound, sooth bass, and a hint of a 4x4 kickdrum. it doesn't fit the mold of the dubstep that is being put out now-a-days. but it's a different take on the genre that is very enjoyable. a must download.

Urchins - Drag On (High Rankin Remix) *192

*dubstep funny man high rankin did an magnificent job on this remix integrating disgusting bass with a more upbeat tempo. and i can always appreciate a track with a broken up vocal sample that meshes real well with the track. dis is a dancefloor killah.
